This is week 2 of our three-week series on “Blessings.” Last week we saw a definition of “Blessing” to be “a thing that contributes to one’s happiness or welfare.” Blessings are bestowed, given, to be received. The idea of blessing is foundational to being the people of God. Tucked into this word is the concept of generosity. Last weekend the focus was on hospitality. This weekend is about generosity, and that includes being generous with our money.
"Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
2 Corinthians 9:7
Ponder
• What was your reaction when Tim mentioned the topic of the message?
• What were some of the messages about giving that you have picked up from your past church (or non-church) experience?
• How have they impacted you today?
• What would you like to see change in your life regarding this?
Read & Discuss
Read these Scriptures out loud in your group and discuss their importance as we unpack blessing and generosity.
• Matthew 6:21
• Acts 20:35
• Romans 5:8
• Malachi 3:10
• Luke 6:38
Reflect
• If trust is integral to a solid relationship, how is this reflected in your relationship with God and with your finances?
• Which best fits you: --No trust, not yet a believer. --Early believer, want to grow. --I'm strong in my faith, I have stories to share of how God's come through.
• How did you feel as you heard Pastor Tim share all the stories that your giving has impacted people within the walls of our church and far beyond those walls- around the world.
• What does it look like to consider that God doesn’t need our money. He doesn’t want something from you, He wants something FOR you?
Do: We are blessed to be a blessing. . .
If you ABSOLUTELY KNEW God was trustworthy to take care of your needs and the needs of your family, how would you live? What would you do differently in the area of blessing to others? Your community of faith? The global community?
What is one way you can take a tangible step to stretch your financial trust in God this week?
