The idea of child dedication flows from the Hebrew context of Scripture and was a common practice in biblical times. Although most churches do not practice child dedication exactly the same as the Hebrews, the intent is similar. In an act of worship, parents give back this child that has so graciously been entrusted to them and we are committing to lead them in the "discipline and instruction of the Lord" (Deuteronomy 6). That is not a small commitment.
Therefore, it must be understood that while we live in a culture of non-traditional families, the family unit would be in congruence with Scripture (a married husband and wife or a single parent living alone). We also know possibly you, your spouse or both of you might still be investigating who Jesus is or have questions that still need answers. You will hear us say, that’s okay. Please know if you’re still in the early stages of figuring out who Jesus is, we’ll want to first hear your story so we can figure your best next step in this process.
In an act of celebration and commitment, parents ask our church family and friends to steward the life of the child in a Godly way. In turn, our church agrees to partner with the parents as we help children grow into adults who love God and love people the way Jesus does. We will celebrate Child Dedication with parents of children 3 years and under during all regular services on October 12/13.
FIRST STEP is for parents is to watch this message from our Director of Kids Ministry, Jeff Busch:
After completing the video, answer a few questions to let us know that you're interested in Child Dedication by Tuesday, October 1. Please have both parents complete this second step together, if applicable.
