Our Beliefs

Whether you’re new to The Crossing or simply checking us out, exploring what we believe is a great place to start.

A church’s beliefs shape far more than what happens in our weekend services. They shape how we understand God, read the Bible, follow Jesus, care for one another, and engage the world around us. Our statement of faith offers a clear picture of the convictions that ground us and the hope that moves us forward.

We know a page like this may raise questions, and we welcome that. Faith is not about pretending to have everything figured out. It is about pursuing what is true and taking the next step toward the God who has not given up on us.

As you read, we hope you will see both what we believe and the kind of community those beliefs call us to become.

Statement of Faith

At The Crossing, we believe the Bible is how God speaks to us. With Scripture as our foundation, we affirm these doctrinal statements that unite us as a church.

We believe in one God who exists eternally in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Each Person of the Trinity is equal in power and authority. Each Person acts in our world today to bring about salvation and restore creation.

We believe the Bible is God’s divinely inspired revelation to the world. It is trustworthy and true, making it authoritative in all matters of faith and practice.

We believe the Bible is a collection of sixty-six books, divided into the Old and New Testaments. It encompasses many genres and was written by different people, to specific audiences, for specific reasons. We must understand these contexts to responsibly apply the Bible to our lives.

We believe God continues to speak to us through the truth of Scripture, instructing, rebuking, and transforming His people.

We believe Jesus is the second Person of the Trinity. He existed before all things, making Him equal to God the Father in both power and majesty.

We believe He is both fully God and fully human. These two natures coexist and are equal in every way.

We believe Jesus died and physically rose again on the third day. Accordingly, He is the "first fruits" of God's new world. His bodily resurrection began God's new creation project. The project will end with His second coming and the restoration of creation.

We believe all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. All people need a Savior, and no one is beyond saving. God sent His Son to pay the penalty for sin. Jesus died on the cross, making a way for humanity to be reconciled to God.

We believe salvation is something received, not achieved. God gives grace as a gift. Men and women are saved when they trust in Jesus' sacrifice, confessing with their mouths Jesus' lordship and believing in their hearts that God raised Him from the dead. The work of the Holy Spirit makes this confession possible.

We believe we are saved for a purpose: to carry out and promote goodness, justice, and righteousness in the world. Our salvation is not an end in itself, but the beginning of a mission-oriented vocation that we live out in every area of our lives.

We believe the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity. The Spirit seals salvation, convicts Christians of sin, guides and teaches them in truth, and equips and empowers them to serve. We affirm all spiritual gifts acknowledged in the Bible, but do not make the charismatic gifts a central part of our worship gatherings.

We believe The Church is the community of God around the world. It is made up of all those who profess faith in Jesus and confess Him as Lord. The Church gathers as local bodies to serve their communities, worship God, study His Word, and grow in faith.

We believe The Church bears witness to Jesus' sovereign rule in the world. This witness involves humbly and boldly defending Christian beliefs, a radical commitment to cross-shaped, self-giving love, and becoming a glimpse of God's Kingdom on earth by how we live. These acts make up the mission of God. By the power of The Spirit, we participate in the work God is already doing in the world.

We believe Jesus will return and judge the living and the dead.

We believe all people will receive physical, glorified bodies.

We believe Jesus will redeem, restore, and reconcile all creation.

We believe those who have accepted His grace will live with Him forever in the new creation.

We believe those who reject salvation will enter eternal judgment.
