Jonah is a fascinating book in the Old Testament. It is a one-of-a-kind book of the prophet Jonah. Despite what comes to mind, it is not about a fish. It is not a children’s book. It is not about punishment for sin. It is a book of very complex emotional themes that overturns our preconceptions of God especially in the Old Testament. Its central character is a flawed messenger of God - one who thinks he might know better than God on how to order the world. But before we get too judgmental of him, we must remember how like him we are. Ultimately, this is a book about the unimaginable depth of God’s grace.
