The historical Jesus wanted not just 'believers' who would pray and go to church but 'students' who would imbibe his words and seek to relate them to everyday life.

Matthew 4:18-22
As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.
Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
Reflect
1. Did you ever have a favorite teacher? Why was this teacher your favorite?
2. What are qualities of a bad teacher? What are qualities of a good teacher?
3. Why was Jesus a Rabbi worth following?
4. Why is it important that Jesus called people who are outcasts (revolutionaries, uneducated fisherman, tax collectors...)?
5. Put yourself in the disciples' position. How would you have felt if you, a simple fisherman, were called by Jesus to be his disciple?
Do
1. God gives us just enough light to make another step. What is the next step you need to make in your spiritual walk?
2. What is one thing that you should do to continue pursuing Jesus as your Rabbi?
