Connect20-25 minutes
Connect with your group about life this past week and then discuss the following questions.
- Moses felt like he had become a stranger in a foreign land. Has there ever been a time when you felt like out of place or was in a place that made you feel like a foreigner?
- What does your name mean? What is your first reaction when you hear your name called unexpectedly?
Also take time to reflect on your action steps last week:
- If you chose to memorize Matthew 6:31-34, how did it go? Did you find yourself going to those words of truth throughout the day?
- If you chose to watch the A&Q video, share something in the video that was helpful or a question you are still wondering about.
Learn5-7 minutes
You will watch a short clip of the message from this series to set up your group discussion. The full version of the message is also available
online to reference before or after your group meeting.
Discuss20-30 minutes
- This was an ordinary day for Moses until God showed up. How can we be more aware of God’s presence in our ordinary days?
- Read Acts 7:30-36 aloud. How long do you think it would take for you to notice something strange like a bush on fire but not burning up? What might God be teaching about paying attention?
- God used a burning bush to get Moses’ attention. Have you ever felt God seeking your attention? If so, in what ways (through people, circumstances, experiences, or something else)?
- A calling from God is revealed when we are listening and responding to God. Have you ever had one of those moments where you felt like God was calling you to something? What was He calling you to?
- In a big picture way, do you sense a calling on your life—a life mission of some sort, a unique purpose you are compelled to accomplish? What is it? How would you describe it? What are you planning to do about it? (If this is a new concept or seems daunting, try the exercise in the Action Steps section).
Pray10-15 minutes
Ask for prayer requests and then you may opt to pray the following prayer.
Jesus—thank You for calling us by name. Thank You for meeting us in our everyday ordinary lives. Help us to pay attention and notice when You might be trying to get our attention. When we notice and feel like we're being nudged to take a step, even though we might be stepping out of our comfort zone, help us to remember that You will be with us and You are for us.
Thank You for entering the story and making a way for us to be close and have a relationship with You. Amen.
Action Steps5-10 minutes
Between now and next week, here are some suggestions for action steps.
Attend the Weekend Service: Note any takeaways, next steps, or reflections in your Peak Experiences notebook. These will help you prepare to participate in your small group, and your small group will benefit from your insights and questions as you learn together.
Other Practical Action Steps: Select one of these practical steps to commit to this week and bring your reflections with you next week.
-
What is My Calling? Exercise: Sometimes we feel a strong calling on our life and other times it’s hard to pinpoint what God may be calling us into. Take a few minutes to answer these questions to get you started.
- Who do you love to serve?
- What is your passion?
- How do my gifts fit in?
- Watch a Clip: Watch this short clip from Jarrett Stevens about understanding identity, calling, and assignments. Take some time to consider and pray about what that looks like for you.
