When was the last time you were really lost? How did you feel?
When has God “rebuilt” something in your life? What did that process look like?
Discuss
1. Read Deuteronomy 28:1-19. Notice all the blessings the Lord would bestow on Israel if they just followed His commands. Why is it that we as human beings have such a problem following God’s commands?
2. Read 2 Kings 21:11-13. King Manasseh led his people astray. When was the last time you followed a person, or the crowd, even though in your heart you knew it wasn’t the right thing to do? How did God give you the second chance you needed?
3. In 2 Kings 22, we learn that King Josiah followed in King David’s footsteps and returned his people to doing what was right in the eyes of the Lord. Who has been a Christian mentor for you? If you don’t have one, who in your life could fill that role?
4. Read Jeremiah 31:31-34. How is the new covenant the Lord makes different than the one made with Abraham? Through this new covenant, we see that God’s kindness and His conviction of us walk hand in hand. Why is this so important to us today?
5. Earlier you were asked about a time in which you were lost. Have you ever felt lost in your walk with Jesus? If you’re feeling that way right now, what is keeping you from turning around and clutching hold of Him again?
6. Read Luke 15:11-24. Take special note of verses 20-24. What assurance do they give you that the Lord is a God of second chances, a God you turn to when you’ve lost your way?

Pray
Lord, I thank You for not only being a God of second chances, but One of chance after chance. We know that as human beings, we are a broken people who lose our way time and time again, but You never give up on us. You run to us with open arms full of love and kindness, coupled with conviction, in a way that doesn’t condemn, but rather lifts us up and turns our eyes upon You, our living Hope. Please protect us from the ways of the world that can cause us to stray from Your path. Help us always to remember that Your way is better and surrendering to You is the only real way to find our way through the thorns and thistles of this world. Go with us this week and help us lean into Your word and conversation with You so as to better light the path that You want us to be on. We ask this in Your most precious Name, Jesus. Amen.
